One of these services is a self-assessment service that provides your organisation with an opportunity to assess its performance against the latest version of the Baldrige Model or the EFQM Model and benchmark its results against other participating organisations from around the world.
Description of the Self Assessment Service
The Centre for Organisational Excellence Research is one of the world’s leading centres for research into TQM, business excellence and benchmarking. It has a number of doctorate students working in this area. COER is part of Massey University and has strong international links with organisations such as the Global Benchmarking Network and the e-TQM College.
COER - Key developments from Total Quality Management to Business Excellence.
- The first journal paper using the words “Total Quality Management” in its title was published in 1984: Rehder, R & F. Ralston, Summer 1984, Total Quality Management: A Revolutionary Management Philosophy, S.A.M. Advanced Management Journal.
- The Baldrige model, designed in 1987, was the first model which provided a common understanding of Total Quality Management principles and components.
- The first book on benchmarking was published in 1989 by Robert Camp.
- 1992: European Quality Award Model launched
- The Balanced Scorecard, written by Kaplan and Norton was published in 1992.
- Formation of the Global Benchmarking Network, www.globalbenchmarking.org in 1994.
- 1995 onwards – move away from Quality/TQM terminology to Business Excellence
- 2000: ISO9000 more aligned to Business Excellence
- 2000: Six Sigma popularity grows
- 2001: Global Excellence Model Council formed
- 2002: Business Performance Improvement Resource (www.BPIR.com) launched
- 2007: More than 80 countries reported to have a Business Excellence Award and more than 155 countries have issued ISO 9001 certificates
